Longwang to set tongues wagging in Brisbane’s CBD

Tassis Group announces new CBD modern-Asian restaurant “Longwang” to open in February 2024 at 144 Edward Street.

Stretching its wings across the alleyway between two buildings, the restaurant's name, "Longwang," may raise a few curious eyebrows. However, Longwang is a homage to the revered Chinese Dragon King (God) of the Sea, a fitting moniker for Queensland's first Asian bar and restaurant, by seafood virtuoso, Michael Tassis.

Collaborating with Tassis is Executive Chef and partner, Jason Margaritis, best known for his tenure at the helm of esteemed Brisbane eateries sAme sAme and Donna Chang. His impressive journey also includes the likes of culinary landmarks, Spice Temple Melbourne and Sydney. This is where Margaritis nurtured his passion for the modern Asian cuisine, inspiring him to become one of Australia’s leading Chefs in the category.

Longwang promises to deliver contemporary Asian gastronomy in a stylish urban setting, marking a culinary experience that Brisbane has been eagerly anticipating – where the bar and kitchen are celebrated in equal measure. The venue seats up to 120 guests.

Occupying a slender three-metre-wide space sandwiched between two buildings, the venue runs for nearly 30metres in a unique tenancy custom-built for purpose – an incredible initiative of lessor, Precision Group. With the design executed by Clui Design, the venue has been infused with an exquisite blend of Asian-inspired aesthetics, including captivating jade-coloured marble accents and elegant brass embellishments.

The creative layout of the venue is built over two levels, with a mezzanine boasting an elevated, open-air bar designed especially for long Brisbane afternoons and warm summer evenings.

Director Michael Tassis, crowned Restaurant and Catering's Restaurateur of The Year 2022, is poised to pioneer something extraordinary. With successful ventures like Opa Bar + Mezze, Massimo Restaurant and Bar, and Fosh Portside redefining riverfront dining, and establishments like Yamas Greek + Drink and Rich and Rare Restaurant reshaping West End into a vibrant dining destination, Longwang marks his maiden venture into the world of Asian cuisine. Mr. Tassis firmly believes that the CBD is primed for this exciting new culinary adventure.

“Longwang will epitomize playful sophistication,” he says, “People who work in the city are eager for a place where they can enjoy interesting cocktails, good wine and share plates with plenty of seafood. For me, a lobster tank was non-negotiable.”

Designing a restaurant in such a particular space is a challenge the Tassis Group has embraced. “Longwang will be very flexible,” says Mr Tassis, “With two bars and an open-air space we’ll be able to accommodate different groups. It’ll be perfect for after work drinks that turn into dinner, or a corporate lunch with a difference.”
